A quorum is the minimum number of people needed to hold meetings or make decisions during certain meetings

- Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Special General Meeting (SGM)
- Committee Meetings
Gujarat Cooperative Society Rules
Rule 5 is related to Bye-laws and what should be part of it. Further Rule 5.2.m discuss about the manner of summoning general meetings under section 73 and the manner of making, altering abrogating bye-laws. There is no further clarification on subject.
Quorum for AGM / SGM
Gujarat Cooperative Society Act and Rules are silent about the same. Thus one needs to go by what is mentioned in the byelaws
Byelaws Clause No 28 (Leaflet U)
The 2/5 or 25 members of the overall total members, shall be sufficient for forming the quorum for the General meeting (sufficient number for carrying out the works). If the quorum is not formed on the day of the meeting then, the meeting shall be adjourned for a period of half an hour and it shall be convened again and by considering the numbers of member present as quorum, the work as per the fixed agenda of the meeting shall be carried out.
Note: Clause number and number of member for quorum may vary based on byelaws of respective Society.
Quorum for Committee Meeting
Gujarat Cooperative Society Act and Rules are silent about the same. Thus one needs to go by what is mentioned in the byelaws
Byelaws Clause No 34.2 (Leaflet U)
The number of more than half of the total number of members of the Committee shall be considered the Quorum (sufficient number) for the works of the meeting. If the quorum is not formed on the day of the meeting then, the meeting shall be adjourned for a period of half an hour and, it shall be convened again and, by considering the numbers of member present as quorum, the work as per the fixed agenda of the meeting shall be carried out.
